Artist: Minuit (Minwee) Release: Find me before I Die a Lonely Death.com Label: Vitamin Date: 26th October 2009
Minuit may have a sweet sounding name and an even sweeter album cover but don’t let this fool you – this unassuming trio from New Zealand are taking over the world with their hugely popular brand of quirky electro pop. Next month sees the highly anticipated Australian release of their hugely successful album ‘Find Me Before I Die A Lonely Death.com’ which debuted at #8 in the NZ album charts in July this year.
Fronted by the enigmatic chanteuse Ruth Carr, band mates Ryan Beehre and Paul Dodge deliver a distinctive arsenal of indie infused pop melodies that have gained the band acclaim from fans and industry heavyweights alike. Radio 1’s Annie Nightingale invited the band to record a thirty minute special for her BBC radio program and they appeared on Pete Tong’s prominent ‘Fastrax’ video show. After winning the hearts and minds of legions of fans across Europe with spectacular live shows in Germany, Russia, Czech Republic and performing at the recent International Music Festival in Vietnam, it’s high time Australian audiences got the chance to see what all the hype is about.
Entering at #15 on the UK DJ Mag charts, Minuit’s previous album 'I Went to This Party and There Were 88 Guards with Guns', launched them into the international spotlight. For ‘Find Me Before I Die A Lonely Death.com’, Minuit have stepped things up a notch, teaming up with Grammy Nominated UK producer Andy Chatterley to create a truly unique sound for first single and album opener 'Wayho'. Sessions for Kanye West and remixes for Blondie, Muse and Peter, Bjorn & John have cemented Chatterly as one of the world’s premier producers. Proving to be a formidable combination, ‘Wayho’ reached #1 on Alt Airplay in New Zealand, with the second single ’25 Bucks’ hot on its heels.
The success of the album overseas and Minuit’s huge amount of international support is testament to the band’s broad appeal. With US electro Duo The Crystal Method rating Minuit's set in the Big Day Out’s Boiler Room as the highlight of their day, their sound is as distinctive as it is addictive.
But don’t just take our word for it, here’s what the critics have to say…
"Just what our scene needs. Pure class" - Rennie Pilgrim, (DJ UK)
"Arguably one of the most exciting acts ever to float north of the long white cloud" Welcome Stranger Magazine, UK
“It's an electro-pop album but rare in the fact it's made up of brilliant contrasts. It's played on the dancefloor, then the couch, and then in some sort of debauched play room.” NZ Herald
"I expected something close to Kosheen, but luckily this is way better!" LoDown Magazine, Germany
“I reckon that this is the closest to emotional fulfilment a dance album has ever gotten.” CMUMUSICNETWORK.co.uk
Having said all this, Minuit admit they still have to add “(minwee)” to their posters wherever they go. Our bet is that this won’t be the case for long as ‘Find Me Before I Die A Lonely Death.com’ makes its way onto Australian stereos with its base heavy, eccentric electro pop and mammoth doses of pure kiwi talent. |
